Be Your Own Bike Mechanic
The Be Your Own Bike Mechanic course is offered in 6-week sessions, 2-day sessions, and customizable private sessions. Whichever class you choose, you’ll learn about all aspects of your bike, from the quick releases to the bottom bracket. Throughout the series, students will be able to deconstruct their bike, identify mechanical problems, and put it all back together again. This popular series of classes is taught by professional mechanics and educators who love sharing their knowledge of bicycles with students.
Outdoor Workshop Series
Join the Portland Gear Hub for this series of workshops aimed at increasing our confidence, skills, and sense of community within the backdrop of the great outdoors. The 3-day format allows for classroom presentation and discussion, guest speakers, ample time spent on the trails, and a chance to reflect on the experience. Choose between hiking and mountain biking experiences this summer and fall.

Know Your Bike
This class is designed as an introduction to your bike, its components, how they work, and how to diagnose and repair a problem. You will learn the basics of bike anatomy, how bikes work, and important bike components. Some editions of this course are for women/trans/femme (WTF) and gender non-conforming folks. The Portland Gear Hub aims to create safer spaces for WTF-identifying individuals to learn about bicycles and share their expertise in Portland’s bicycling community. Sliding scale pricing is available for some editions of this class.
MTB Skill Builder Series
The MTB Skill Builder Series is great for new riders or those looking to practice the basics. You’ll hone your body positioning while riding in different terrain, refine your shifting & braking technique, work on climbing & descending, & practice trail etiquette as we get oriented to the different trails systems available in the area. These sessions provide ample opportunities for group discussion and practice of specific skills, and are great way to meet new trail riding friends too! Sliding scale pricing is available for some editions of this class.
